SOS (Save Our Social-life!)
Ooh, have we got a lot of goss to tell you guys! First of all we had a cracking time at August’s Pretty Ugly where the gorgeous Marnie from Ladytron graced our decks. She did an ace job of soundtracking our night, from Annie to The Runaways to Shakira, she even played Drive Me Wild by Vanity 6, which my old band The Microsluts covered many moons ago (apols for my attempt to reenact the dance routine). She even stayed and danced with us until the bitter end like a true trooper – you are welcome back any time Marnie!
Next up we played at a wedding for the lovely Nicky & James who were up for having all the unconventional wedding tunes – Phoenix, Swifto, Modest Mouse, Future Islands, even some Celine Dion power ballad action! We followed that by spinning some tunes at The Woodside Warehouse with The Wedding Collective where we supplied the tunes to the first Bridal Market Late. It was a great night, much better to do your party planning with a Moscow Mule in your hand. Drop us an email if you wanna chat about us DJing at your celebration – weddings, birthdays or whatever it may be!
We were also meant to be playing on a milk float at the Edinburgh Fringe but it ended up not happening, which was a bummer as we fully intended to play Kelis’ Milkshake on an hourly basis. It also meant we missed out on tickets to see Viv Albertine from The Slits talking about her ace book. Although, we could’ve had another Caitlin Moran style ambush on our hands, so maybe it was for the best.
So onto the big news. There’s been chat about our dear home The Admiral Bar being knocked down and turned into offices, which is bloody awful news if it does happen (hopefully its all a load of nonsense). In fact, lots of the news of late has been down on nightclubs, especially after The Guardian ran this story two days later about how many have been closed down over the last decade. It makes for pretty grim reading, hence we are telling them to get tae! This weekend’s Pretty Ugly will be celebrating all that Glasgow clubbing still has to offer while sticking the finger up to anyone who tries to take our dancefloors away – you can take our Arches, but you’ll never take our Admiral! Your Disco Needs You more than ever so come and dance like its your last.
Except it won’t be your last of course, as we’ll be back again a week later at Stereo with those kickass TYCI gals. We’ll be on the decks after Breakfast Muff and tickets are a fiver on the door. This is our third time playing at TYCI and its always a fun night in honour of a great cause (which also means a bloody good raffle!) You should also pop along to the launch of St Luke’s beforehand – the East End’s newest venue looks like its gonna be a winner.
Then for those of you who love a bit of pop (and lets face it, who doesn’t?) we have teamed up with the guys behind Fascination (i.e. the past & present home of Girls Aloud, Miley, The Sats, The SEB, All Saints, Goldfrapp – er, can we move in too please?!) to bring a new night to Glasgow. We Love Pop has been running in London for the past two years but as its always on the same night as Pretty Ugly, we’ve never been able to go to it. So we figured, why not bring it to Scotland ourselves! We will be manning the decks on the last Fri of every month from 25 September at O2 ABC2 and bringing in plenty of guests to join us too. Follow the Facebook page for updates.
So there you have it, a triple threat of Glasgow gigs this month so you have no excuse not to join us for a dance and a bevy. We will leave you with our ‘King of The Cloakroom‘ Chris Beltran who recently picked his top tunes for Podcart (and it contains Crazy In Love as all Top 10’s should).
